Johannes Johnson-Anna Gabrielson Life History

Johannes Johnson
Johannes Johnson (Jonsson) was born 15 Oct. 1812 in Kagelstrup, Sventorp, Skaraborg, Sweden.  His parents are Jonas larsson and Maria Andersson.

Anna Gabrielsson was born 3 May 1811 in Ingelsby, Kyrkefalla, Sweden. Her parents are Gabriel Andersson and Maria Olofsson.

Johannes and Anna were married 1 July 1838 in Varola, Skaraborg, Sweden.  They were considered medium well to do.  He was a mason by trade.  They had six children: Jan Jonsson born 5 Sep . 1838; Maja Lena Jonsson born 29 Nov 1840; Anders Gustaf Jonsson born 10 April 1844 and died in childhood; Anne Christina Jonsson  born 26 Feb. 1846; Charlotta Josefina Jonsson born 12 Nov 1849 and Ingrid Lovisa Jonsson born 12 Feb 1855.

Johannes built large ovens where the people came to bake bread.  Around their main home were many small houses or places in which they stored their belongings such as clothes, and food.  One house was a bake shop where they stored flat bread which is flat like a big pancake and very hard.  It lasted indefinitely.  One of their daughters was a weaver and so they had linen sheets and beautiful table cloths and clothes, etc.  They were Lutherans.

One day while Johannes was working on one of the ovens, two Mormon Missionaries cane and taught him the gospel.  He knew the Bible pretty well and after three days he was converted to the church.  He was baptized 26 July 1860 and Anna was baptized 16 September 1860.  Three daughters also joined the Church but the other two children didn’t.

They came to America by steam ship about 1871 and settled in Grantsville, Utah.  On 16 December 1872 they went to the Endowment House in Salt Lake City, Utah

Anna died 12 Feb. 1874 in Grantsville, Utah.

Johannes was sealed to Berta Bengtsson on 10 Aug 1874.  Johannes died 1 Dec 1892 in Grantsville, Utah.
