MRS. ELIZABETH (RASBASS) POULTON DIES AT THE AGE OF 95 - CROSSED THE PLAINS WITH THE HAND CART CO.
In the passing away of Mrs. Elizabeth Poulton last week at the home of her son, William H. Poulton, at the ripe old age of 95 years, Oakley looses her oldest pioneer citizen.

The deceased lady was born at Wolverhampton, England, in November 28, 1821.  She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in her native land when but a girl, and has been an active worker and lived a faithful life throughout.

Mrs. Poulton with her husband immigrated to Utah in 1861 and crossed the plains in one of the hand cart companies and went through all of the early trials and privations in moving westward.  They first settled in Grantsville, Utah, and then moved to Coleville, Utah, and I 1881 moved to Oakley, Idaho where they have resided ever since.  She had been living with her daughter Mrs. Mary Matthews until a few months ago when she as taken to her sons’ and where she peacefully passed to the great beyond surrounded by her loved ones.

Grandma Poulton lost her husband 24 years ago.  For the past few years she has been blind, but otherwise was cheerful and had a good memory till the last.  She has been well taken care of by both her daughter and her son in her old age.

She was the mother of 8 children, five of whom are living and are as follows:
William H. Poulton, Samuel Poulton, Mary Matthews, all Oakley: Richard Poulton, Warm Creek, Mrs. Maggie Barrett of Montpelier.  She is also survived by 20 great grand children and 43 grandchildren.  Funeral services were held on Friday last (April 6, 1917) in the Stake Tabernacle and her many friends assembled to pay their last tribute to one so loved and highly respected.

Interment took place in the Oakley Cemetery.
